Vape Coils
The heart of your vaping device. These heating elements known as vape coils are there to turn your e-liquid into vapour. Generally, with a manufactured vape coil we find a heating element encased in cotton. The cotton holds the liquid enabling it to be vaporised once you apply power to the vape coil from your battery.

What Are Vape Coils?
Vape coils are one of the most important parts of your vape. These metal coils act as a heating element, and they’re wrapped in cotton to soak up the vape liquid. As the power from the battery is applied to the coil, they heat up and vaporise the liquid for you to inhale.
Vape coils come in a wide range of resistance ratings, known as ohms (Ω), which determine how much energy they take to heat up. For experienced vapers, experimenting with different ohm coils and power outputs will help them to get the perfect hit for their individual tastes.
Vape coils will need replacing as they age, but the frequency will depend on the power of your device, your vaping style and the ohm rating. If your vape begins to taste burnt, it’s a good sign your coil needs to be changed.
Coils for vapes are available for the two main vape styles, Mouth-to-Lung (MTL) and Direct-to-Lung (DTL), so it’s important to choose the right one for your kit. How to prime a vape coil?
Priming your vape coil is done differently depending on the device you have.
Integrated Coil Vape Pods
Simply fill the pod and leave it to saturate for 5 minutes, after which you can start vaping. We recommend starting on a low setting before slowly adding power to ensure you don’t burn your coil and assuming you can control the wattage on your vape. This will let the coil seep up the e-liquid properly.
Replaceable Coil Vape Pods
Drip some e-liquid into the wicking holes on the coil before placing it into the pod and filling it up. Leave it to sit for around 5 minutes to let the coil saturate properly, and then you can start vaping as usual. As above, if possible, start on low power and then crank up to avoid premature coil burn.
Coil priming only needs to be done with fresh coils, but it’s always a good idea to let the coil rest for a bit when refilling as it helps it saturate again.
How long do vape coils last?
Vape coils generally last a week or two, but it will depend on the type of device you have and how much you use it. For example, MTL coils last longer because they work with low-powered devices, which means less strain is put on the coil. On the other hand, DTL coils work with more powerful batteries and are designed to create big, thick clouds of vape.
When to replace a vape coil?
You’ll need to replace your vape coil every one to two weeks to maintain a fresh taste and prevent burning or oversaturation. If you have a lower-powered device or aren’t a frequent vaper, this could be longer. A burnt or unpleasant taste is usually the most obvious sign that your coil needs replacing.
Why does my vape coil taste burnt?
This can happen for several reasons. One of the main ones is if you don’t prime your coil before using it. You can also taste burning if the power is too high for the coil ohm (Ω) or there’s not enough e-liquid in the pod.
Why is my vape leaking?
A leaking vape is usually a sign that you have too much vape juice in your pod. To avoid this, we recommend only filling your pod up to about ⅔ of its capacity. Leaking can also happen if the coil hasn’t been properly inserted into the pod or if the filling port hasn’t been properly closed.
What coil is right for my vape pod?
Choosing the right vape coil is essential to having a good experience. If you have an MTL device, choose a coil above 0.7Ω; if you have a DTL device, choose a coil below 0.4Ω.
This is because the coil ohms relate to the output capabilities of your vape. You can’t vape a 1.2Ω coil exceeding 30W because it will burn, and likewise, you can’t use a 0.15Ω coil in an MTL device because it won’t have enough power to vaporise.
What does the ohm mean on vape coils?
In simple terms, the coil ohm represents the coil's resistance to the device's output power.
The lower the ohm number, the less resistance the coil has to the electricity flow, meaning that the coil will heat up fast and to a high level as it can more easily take the power from the battery.
The higher ohm coils have a higher resistance to the electricity flow, meaning that less electricity will pass through the coil. This also means that it takes less power to heat the coil and efficiently vaporise the vape juice.
Why does my vape juice get dark in my vape pod?
Exposure to heat, UV, and oxygen can all turn e-liquids dark in the tank. This usually happens if they’ve been sitting in there for too long. Change the pod and coil for a fresh taste, but if the e-liquid is dark in the bottle, then it’s because you’re storing it in sunlight rather than a cool, dark place.
