  • Troubleshooting

  • My vape battery isn’t working

    Try the following:

Check if you’ve pressed the power button too often and turned it off. The majority of vape mods and batteries can be turned on and off by clicking the firing button a number of times in quick succession. Dependent on the brand of battery, this may be 3, 5 or 6 times - check your user manual for details.

Check if you need to charge it. If you think it should be charged, just double check that you are using the correct charger for your battery. Your battery will give you a signal to let you know that connection has been made and charging is in progress.

Check for connection issues. The terminal between your battery and your tank needs to be clean. Use a cotton bud to clear away any dust particles and gunked up vape juice.

Review our comprehensive guide to battery safety to ensure you haven’t compromised your battery in any way.

    If none of that worked:

Like any rechargeable battery, your vape battery will lose storage over time. You can bring your battery in for us to check its capacity. Alternatively, It might be time for a new battery. Check our extensive range for a replacement.

  • My mod’s OLED screen says there’s no atomiser

    Try the following:

Rotate your device whilst looking at the tank to see if it’s crooked. This is the most common reason for this message and is caused by the device being dropped, knocked, or transported in your pocket. If it is crooked, it may be repairable, or it may be time for a new tank.

If your tank has an adjustable 510 pin, make sure it’s adjusted to suit your mod.

Check your coil to see if it’s loose, or has vape juice clogging the connection at the base.

Make sure your tank is not over tightened on the mod.

Clean the connecting terminals to ensure your atomiser is making contact with the mod.

Check if the coil needs replacing (if it does, make sure you always follow our coil priming guide).

  • I’m not getting any draw from my vaping device

    Try the following:

Make sure your battery is switched on and has enough charge.

Check that you have e-liquid in your tank.

Make sure that there is a clean connection between your coil and your vape battery.

    If none of that worked:

The odd coil can be a dud - even if it’s fresh out of the pack and properly primed. Sometimes the cotton can get too tightly wound within the coil which means no airflow can get through to give you the draw you’re used to. Change the coil for a new one, and let us know about the faulty coil so that we can replace it for you.

  • I’m getting spitting and/or gurgling sounds when I vape

    Try the following:

Remove the mouthpiece / drip tip (if possible) and flick the device towards the floor (preferably outside or into some tissue) to remove any excess vape juice from the coil.

Make sure that the tank is not overfilled or over tightened to the vape battery.

Take the tank apart and run it under warm water to clear out any excess juice - thoroughly dry with clean kitchen roll before putting your device back together (make sure you remove the coil first as this must not be rinsed).

    If none of that worked:

You may be inhaling too hard for the particular tank to handle. Try changing to a tank that’s better suited to Direct-to-Lung (DTL) vaping styles to allow you to take bigger hits.

  • I’m getting e-liquid leaking through the airflow

    Try the following:

Make sure it hasn’t been left in a hot place causing the device to overheat and the e-liquid to thin.

Check to see if the coil needs replacing (if it does, make sure you always follow our coil priming guide).

Make sure the coil is securely tightened and not cross threaded.

Check that any O-rings on the coil are in place (check a new coil to see how these might look).

Examine how you’re vaping - if your device is designed for direct-to-lung vaping, but you’re mouth-to-lung vaping, you may be causing the device to overheat.

Check what e-liquid you’re using. If your coil is low resistance then it has bigger airflow holes which are designed for use with higher VG (thicker) vape juice. If your eliquid contains too much PG (thinner) then it can end up leaking out of the airflow.

Increase your power setting to vaporise more juice per puff and prevent leakage from a flooded coil.

Empty your tank before getting on a plane! If you’ve recently taken a flight, the change in air pressure will force your vape juice out of the tank.

  • I’m getting e-liquid leaking from the tank

    Try the following:

Check that you haven’t overfilled the tank causing e-liquid to pool within the central tube. Leaving a small amount of air within the tank also creates a vacuum which helps to stop vape juice leakage.

Make sure that all of the components are properly threaded, but not over tightened.

Examine the O-ring and seals within the tank to see if they need cleaning or replacing.

Check that the tank glass isn’t cracked - if it is, we stock replacement glass for a wide range of atomisers.

Leave your vaping device standing upright when not in use.

    If none of that worked:

Your vaping style may be more suited to a different tank; or you might be vaping a high PG liquid that is unsuited to the style of tank and coil that you’re using.

  • My OLED screen is blank and won’t turn on

    Try the following:

Check if the mod has been put into stealth mode. Certain mods have an option within the menu to allow you to vape in ‘stealth mode’ without the screen lighting up. If your mod has this option, check the instruction manual for details of how to remove your device from stealth mode.

Check to see if there is a firmware update available for your mod.

    If none of that worked:

Your screen may be broken. If the mod is still within warranty (and you bought it from us), you can either choose to complete our returns' form online, or get in touch to discuss a replacement.

  • My e-liquids are turning dark

    Try the following:

Store your e-liquid bottles in a cool, dark, dry environment.

Think about how long the vape juice has been sitting in the tank - exposure to heat, UV and oxygen can cause e-liquid to darken over time.

Check what nicotine strength your e-liquid is - higher nicotine levels will oxidise faster and cause your vape liquid to darken more quickly.

Make sure your tank is nice and clean - any residue of old e-liquid can affect the new juice in the tank.

Check to see if the coil needs replacing (if it does, make sure you always follow our coil priming guide).

    Please note:

Vape juice will darken over time, regardless of environment. Also, e-liquid that contains freebase nicotine has a shorter shelf life than nic salt based liquid due to the effects of oxidation.

  • I’m getting a dry hit / burnt taste when I vape

    Try the following:

Check if your coil is in need of replacing. Coils don’t last forever, and when they wear out, they can deliver an unpleasant burnt taste. How often they need replacing depends on a number of factors (find out more in our guide).

If you've recently replaced the coil, make sure you primed it properly.

If you’ve recently primed the coil, make sure you’ve left enough time for the e-liquid to completely saturate the cotton wicking material before taking a hit.

Check that your tank contains enough e-liquid to cover the airflow holes in the coil to avoid the coil drying out.

    If none of that worked:

It’s possible that you’re taking too many puffs in quick succession which means that the coil doesn’t have enough time to wick new liquid through before you take the next hit. Consider giving your e-cig a rest between puffs. Alternatively, check if your tank has an option for a coil with larger airflow holes to allow more vape juice into the coil.

  • I’m getting a dry / sore throat when I vape

    Try the following:

    Take a drink of water.

Reduce the number of puffs you take in quick succession.

Make sure there is enough e-liquid in your tank so you’re not getting a dry hit.

    If none of that worked:

You might want to consider switching to a higher VG e-liquid as PG delivers a stronger throat hit and can be responsible for a dry throat feeling. Another point to consider is how long ago you stopped smoking cigarettes. Smoking cessation is a form of withdrawal, and one of the symptoms is a sore throat.

  • I’m not getting big enough clouds from my vape

    Try the following:

Check the VG/PG ratio of your e-liquid — VG is the ingredient that produces the big clouds so, if you're not satisfied with your vapour production, you should consider switching to a vape juice with a high VG content.

Make sure your vaping device isn’t in need of recharging.

Check that the coil isn’t dry and doesn’t need replacing (if it does, make sure you always follow our coil priming guide).

Clean any dust or e-liquid build up from the connections using a cotton bud.

    If none of that worked:

It might be time for you to upgrade to a more powerful device: more power = bigger clouds. We stock a wide range of high wattage mods for a cloud chasing vaping experience.

  • I’m not getting enough of a throat hit from my vape

    Try the following:

Check the VG/PG ratio of your e-liquid - PG is the ingredient that provides throat hit so, if you’re not satisfied, you may want to switch to a higher PG vape juice.

Check the nicotine strength of your e-liquid — the more freebase nicotine, the stronger the throat hit.

Consider the flavour of your e-liquid - menthol and citrus flavours deliver more of a throat hit than their sweeter counterparts.

    If none of that worked:

It might be time for you to upgrade to a device that offers you more control over power, airflow, and temperature. We stock a wide range of variable wattage modsfor a completely customisable vaping experience.

  • I’m getting too much of a throat hit from my vape

    Try the following:

Check the VG/PG ratio of your e-liquid - VG is the ingredient that delivers a smoother vape, whereas PG is responsible for throat hit. Switching to a higher VG vape juice may improve your experience.

Check the nicotine strength of your e-liquid — the more freebase nicotine, the stronger the throat hit. Reducing the nicotine strength of your vape juice could be the answer.

Alternatively, if you’re not ready to reduce the nicotine strength, you might want to consider switching to a nicotine salt based e-liquid. With nicotine salts, you can maintain a very high nicotine dose without a harsh throat hit.

  • I’m not getting enough of a nicotine hit from my vape

    Try the following:

Consider the nicotine strength of your e-liquid - most traditional e-liquids contain freebase nicotine which delivers nicotine into the blood more slowly than cigarettes. Switching to a higher nicotine strength might be best for you.

Increase the power of your device to get a bigger hit.

Check your vaping style - long, gentle drags on your e-cig will produce the best hit.

Make sure your battery has enough charge.

Check to see if the coil needs replacing (if it does, make sure you always follow our coil priming guide).

    If none of that worked:

You might be better suited to an e-liquid that contains nicotine salt, rather than freebase nicotine. Nicotine salts deliver the nicotine into your bloodstream at a rate that is comparable with combustible cigarettes. They are also a lot smoother at higher nicotine doses than their freebase counterparts. Check our comprehensive guide to find out more.

  • I’m not getting enough flavour from my e-liquid

    Try the following:

Blow gently through the tank to get the liquid flowing and release flavour.

Take a drink of water to flush your taste buds.

Consider how old your e-liquid is - oxidation can lead to degradation in the flavour of vape juice over time.

Clean your tank and connections to make sure that no grubby build-up is affecting flavour delivery.

Change to a different flavour for a while - if you’ve been vaping the same flavour for a while, you may be suffering from vaper’s tongue (also known as olfactory fatigue, vaper’s fatigue or flavour fatigue). Don’t worry, switching your flavours around periodically usually does the trick.

    If none of that worked:

Do you currently have a cold? Our sense of taste is hugely affected by our sense of smell, so a cold can often be the culprit of things tasting bland or nasty. Also, stress, certain infections and/or medications can lead to a temporary change or loss of taste.

  • Vaping FAQs

  • What are the different types of vaping device?

    CE5 Kit

These are usually the more basic, cheaper devices favoured by beginners who are unsure if vaping is going to be right for them. There are fewer options available nowadays because vape pens have become much more affordable. Recommended for use with 50/50 PG/VG e-liquids that give less vapour production.

    Vape Pen

Slightly bigger than CE5 kits, yet still inexpensive, vape pens now come with plenty of options. They can usually accommodate lower ohm coils, and higher VG e-liquid to give bigger clouds and more flavour.

    Pods and Compacts

Pod systems are the latest generation of vaping kits that allow the user to either buy pre-filled e-liquid pods or refill their own. Handy spare replacements are often available and some you can change coils in and reuse. Other pods are designed to be refilled a few times then disposed of as the coil wears out.

    Mods with Tanks

Hundreds of different designs of mods and tanks exist - you can even mix and match to create your preferred look and functionality. If you are a high user and need increased battery life and power, choose a mod and tank combination.

    RDAs, RTAs and Mechanical Mods

Rebuildable Dripping Atomisers (RDA), Rebuildable Tank Atomisers (RTA) and Mechanical Mods are only recommended for use by advanced vapers, and people with knowledge of electronics.

RDAs only hold the amount of e-liquid that the cotton, and a small well at the bottom of the unit, can contain. These work by simply dripping e-liquid onto the coil and powering the mod, hence the nickname ‘Drippers’.

RTAs are a cross between a standard tank and an RDAs. However, instead of using a factory coil, the user builds their own coil to their preference and resistance. Learn more about rebuildable coils in our dedicated coil guide.

Mechanical Mods have no circuitry. Instead they use a firing pin that allows the current in the battery to reach the attached atomiser directly.

  • What are the different vaping styles?

There are two distinct vaping styles that you might hear people talking about. Learning which style of vaper you are will help you to select the right vaping equipment.

    Mouth to Lung vaping (MTL)

This style is most common when people first switch to vaping as it most closely replicates the action of smoking. MTL vaping is achieved by using less airflow on the atomiser and using your cheeks to draw the vapour into your mouth before taking it into your lungs.

    Direct to Lung vaping (DTL)

This style is more common as people get used to vaping. DTL vaping is achieved by using more airflow (from large atomisers and wide drip tips) and using your lungs to inhale the vapour directly into the lungs.

  • What is in e-liquid?

E-liquid can also be known as e-juice, vape liquid, vape juice or coil sauce and is the liquid that you drip into your vaping device which is heated by the coil to create vapour. It consists of just four ingredients: propylene glycol (PG), vegetable glycerine (VG), flavouring and nicotine. The VG and PG are additives from the food industry that are typically used to sweeten or preserve food (more on this below).

Ultimately, the blend you choose will be a very personal thing so it's a good idea to experiment with a few different brands to find the perfect vape juice for you.

You may prefer more PG for the throat hit or more VG for increased vapour production and intense flavour. You may favour a particular flavour group (tobacco, menthol, fruits, vanilla, caramel, mixed berries - the choice is endless). You may decide to vape a liquid with high, medium, or no nicotine at all.

You can learn more about the evolution of eLiquid in our interesting look at vaping history.

  • What is Propylene Glycol (PG)?

Propylene Glycol is used to carry flavour in food products, as an ingredient in food colouring, and also as an additive in certain medicines. PG is the ingredient that provides the throat hit sensation that new vapers crave. Propylene Glycol is non toxic and is proven to be safe for use by humans.

  • What is Vegetable Glycerine (VG)?

Vegetable Glycerine is a sweet, vegetable based liquid. VG provides the vapour production which simulates smoke and is thicker than Propylene Glycol. Vegetable Glycerine is non toxic is proven to be safe for use by humans. The more VG in an e-liquid, the smoother it will be to vape, and the bigger the cloud production will be.

  • What is sub-ohm vaping?

Sub-ohming is vaping on a device where the coil has a resistance of less than 1.0 ohm. The coil will contain a thicker wire with larger wicking holes to increase the airflow. You will be able to use more power and the thicker wire means that more surface area is in contact with the e-liquid soaked cotton.

The reason that advanced vapers ‘sub-ohm’ is to have the ability to increase the power output from their devices, creating more vapour and flavour from their e-liquid.

Typically sub-ohm vapers favour the direct-to-lung (DTL) vaping style. When the vapour is inhaled straight into the lungs, it increases the amount of vapour they can take in each puff. They also choose high VG e-liquids to increase vapour production even further.

Sub-ohm coils and tanks will only work on a mechanical or regulated mod or kit capable of handling them. Improper use can lead to damaged vaping kit, or injury to yourself and others. If in doubt, always check with us to ensure you have the correct kit for what you’re trying to achieve.

We would also suggest an e-liquid with 6 mg of nicotine, or lower, for use with sub-ohm coils. Sub-ohm tanks and atomisers produce a higher throat hit than their standard resistance counterparts. Any more than 6mg of nicotine could taste burnt or harsh.

  • How do I prime a new coil?

Coils will need replacing periodically; the length of time between changes depends on a number of factors. The amount of device use, power settings, chosen e-liquid, and other variables, all affect the lifespan of the coil. Generally you would want to replace your coil as and when you encounter a burnt or poor taste from your atomiser.

It's really important to make sure your coil is primed properly before you first fire the device. To achieve this, you can follow the simple instructions in our coil priming guide.

  • What is an e-cigarette?

An e-cigarette is an electronic tobacco smoking substitute that creates a vapour mist to replicate the experience of smoking a cigarette. There are many types available for those first starting out, on a budget, or looking to splash out.

  • What are the benefits of e-cigarettes versus regular cigarettes?

Regular cigarette smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals, including 43 carcinogenic compounds and 400 other toxins. These include nicotine, tar, carbon monoxide, as well as formaldehyde, ammonia, hydrogen cyanide, arsenic and DDT.

E-cigarettes are non-combustible and, therefore, contain no ash, smoke, tar, or carcinogens. They also do not smell like regular cigarettes (hurrah!) and are widely considered to pose no cause for concern to bystanders.

These topics, and many others, are covered further in our popular guide to vaping mythology. You can also find more about the benefits in this article.

  • What is an atomiser?

There are many types of atomiser available in the vaping world today. They sit on top of an e-cigarette battery and use heat to vaporise e-liquid. They can be self-contained and disposable, use replaceable coils, or be rebuildable for experienced vapers who want full control over their vaping experience.

  • What is a coil?

These are the heart of your vaping device. Generally, with a manufactured coil (previously known as wicks), you'll see a small wire wrapped around cotton. The cotton is soaked in e-liquid and, when the wire is heated by the battery, it turns the e-liquid into vapour.

The resistance of a coil is defined in ohms, which tells you how much current the coil will allow to pass through it. The lower the resistance, the more heat will be generated meaning that you will produce more vapour and experience a more intense flavour from your vape juice. The downside is that you will go through more e-liquid and your battery life will be reduced.

  • What is the difference between 'mouth to lung' and 'direct to lung' vaping?

These terms have come about due to the new technology available in vaping devices which are much more powerful than they used to be. If you are new to vaping, you will need to know the difference so you can make an informed choice about which may be best for you.

With mouth to lung (MTL/M2L), you inhale the vapour and collect it in your mouth before breathing it fully into your lungs. The atomisers used for this provide a tight draw and are what new vapers should start with first to ween off smoking.

The process closely mimics the effects of smoking, and is what early adopters of vaping will be used to as the first e-cigarette kits only allowed for the MTL method. Additionally, MTL setups usually require fewer power settings (wattage) and can handle higher nicotine and PG levels.

Direct to lung (DL) vaping is much closer to breathing normally. The DL devices are newer, more advanced setups and their atomisers have a much looser draw that require the use of your lungs directly to inhale.

Far more vapour is produced (cloud chasing), there is more flavour and the hit can be more intense and satisfying. Because of the bigger hit, it is important to choose a lower nicotine content (usually no more than 6 mg). Users will also often favour a higher VG liquid which is much smoother, and a vape kit with airflow control.

  • Which nicotine strength should I go for?

The nicotine strength listed for e-liquid is the number of milligrams of nicotine per millilitre in a bottle. That means a 10ml bottle of 6 mg nicotine e-liquid would have 60 mg of nicotine (6 mg x 10ml).

The new legislation from the TPD restricts e-liquid to a nicotine strength of no more than 20mg/ml. You can read more information about TPD regulations here.

If you smoke regular cigarettes (like a Marlboro Red), there is approximately 1.2 mg of nicotine in each cigarette, or 24 mg of nicotine per pack (1.2 mg x 20 cigarettes).

If you smoke light cigarettes (like a Marlboro Light), there is approximately 0.7 mg of nicotine in each cigarette, or 14 mg of nicotine per pack (0.7 mg x 20 cigarettes).

If you smoke Ultra Light cigarettes (like a Silk Cut), there is approximately 0.5 mg of nicotine in each cigarette, or 10mg of nicotine per pack (0.5 mg x 20 cigarettes).

As you make the switch to vaping from regular cigarettes, you can consider this a guide to the nicotine strength you should try. Of course, this isn't definitive as other factors, such as VG/PG ratio and your chosen flavour can have an effect on the nicotine hit, so you should always experiment with a few variants.

10+ regular cigarettes per day = 18 mg nicotine strength

Up to 10 light cigarettes per day = 12 mg nicotine strength

Up to 10 ultra-light cigarettes per day = 6 mg nicotine strength

Very light/occasional smokers = 3 mg nicotine strength

Nicotine free = 0 mg nicotine strength

  • How do I look after my battery?

One of the big headlines about the vaping industry is the safety of the equipment. There are many experienced vapers that know how to safely use batteries with the various types of vape device. However, for those new to the world of vaping, practising battery safety is something that needs to be made a priority. Make sure you read our comprehensive guide to battery safety to see how to properly care for your particular vaping device.

  • What vaping equipment do I need?

Firstly, you will need to choose a vaping device. Technology has come a long way since vaping first started to become popular back in 2012. However, the vaping kits may look very different, but they are all made up from the same four basic components.

    Drip Tip

You inhale the e-liquid vapour through this part.

    Tank / Atomiser

This is the place where the e-liquid is held. They all have a 2ml capacity as standard. However, extensions can be purchased for heavier e-liquid users.

    Coil

This is a metal wire surrounded by wicking material, usually cotton. This is the part of the vaping hardware that will need changing the most often. You can read all about proper care for coils in our coil priming guide.

    Battery / Regulated Mod

This contains the power needed to heat your coil and create the vapour. Battery capacity is denoted as milliampere hour (mAh). The power output of the mod is shown as Watts (W) or Volts (V). You can read all about battery safety in our comprehensive guide.
